Email message headers are very useful for diagnosing email delivery issues, each server an email passes through is listed and time stamped in the headers allowing you to trace the path of any email. Headers can also contain other useful information such as the message ID and whether the email has been filtered as spam.

- Open the email message you want to view the headers for and click the file
- Select Info
- Click Properties
- Your headers will be listed under Internet headers
Outlook 2010 to 2016
- Open the email message you want to view the headers for and click file
- Select the Info tab
- Click Properties
- Your headers will be listed under Internet headers
Outlook 2007
- Open the email message you want to view the headers for.
- Select the Message tab
- Locate Options (This is generally listed under the Follow Up/Mark as Unread icons)
- Your headers will be listed under Internet headers
Windows Mail
There is no option to view headers in windows mail, to gain access to the headers check your account to see if you have a webmail client and view you email through there instead, the most common webmail clients are covered in this article.
Mac OS X Mail
- Open your message
- Click View
- Select Messages > All Headers
Mozilla Thunderbird
- Select your message
- Click View from the toolbar
- Click Message Source to view your headers
Zimbra Webmail
- Right click on the message
- Select Show Original
Google Gmail
- Click the arrow next to the reply button
- Select Show Original
Yahoo Mail
- Open the email
- Click More > View Raw Message
Outlook.com
- Right click on the email
- Select View message source
Squirrel Mail Webmail
- Open the email
- Select Options > View Full Header
RoundCube Webmail
- Double click the email
- Click the arrow to the right (Toggle raw message headers)
Horde Webmail
- Open the email message
- Click Message Source
